The Other Side

Last week, I was in a little bit of a funk. As much as I love London, studying abroad can be a little lonely. I was caught off guard with waves of unexpected homesickness. I have a final Friday and a few deadlines coming up. In addition, the excitement of new classes is long gone and the impending doom and stress of finals is lurking around the corner. But, these things are life. Life can get a little dull, a little stagnant, a little monotonous, a little stressful, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the best out of every single day. And this weekend was the perfect opportunity to embrace the moment, so I got a little out of my comfort zone, made some impulse decisions, and tried to take care of myself.
I got a haircut, which ended up being a lot (a lot, a lot) shorter than I wanted. Thankfully, hair grows, and straightening irons are cheap.
I ate Persian food for the first time. It was absolutely unparalleled, and the pictures of the food do not do it justice; I suppose I have no choice but dine there again – just to get some decent pictures. Simurgh.

I had breakfast at my favorite restaurant, Le Pain Quotidien, three days in a row. Don’t judge me or ask me how to pronounce the restaurant name. I call it LPQ in attempt to retain my dignity.
I got my ears double-pierced (!!!) and spent some quality girl time wandering around Covent Garden buying souvenirs.
I made an impromptu trip to Whole Foods because Whole Foods make everything better. Seriously.
I ran almost five miles, almost.
I got my first Shellac manicure and for good measure, I got a pedicure too. Pure love.

This week is going to be busy, but I’m ready. Anytime I get overwhelmed, I plan on looking down at my newly polished nails because beautifully polished nails just make me feel fabulous and feeling fabulous is the complete opposite of being in a funk.

I my first shellac manicure yesterday! I love it, and I also stare at them all day so I understand the feeling.

Can I just say I am so freaking excited my cousin commented on my blog?
Thanks Steph!

I remember those bouts of homesickness when I was living in Paris! Sometimes a long phone call (or Skype) home, a hot cup of tea and a hot bath can do wonders! Your nails look fabulous

Thanks for commenting Gillian! I actually just skyped my family tonight, and it was lovely! The bouts of homesickness come and go, but I am feeling much better this week!

I’ve been in a funk too – but I don’t have an excuse like being abroad! I think my biggest thing has been figuring out where I am right now. What my bank balance is, what homework is due, what work needs to be done, and what I need to do to be ready for next year – it’s all overwhelming and I think I’m eating (and gaining weight) to compensate for it. I just need to sit down and figure things out!

Yeah, sometimes there are just so many things going on it can be difficult to find some distance to just sit back and appreciate everything you have. I am really trying not to let those things stress me out though. Hang in there girl! You’ll get things figured out!

Way to take action and push through it instead of sitting around letting your feelings get the best of you. Love the nails…shellac is awesome.
