Dark Chocolate Oatmeal On the Go

If you are a vegetarian or vegan traveling abroad, trying to find good food can be a pain in the arse. London is the most vegan friendly place I have visited overseas, but it can still be frustrating to find something to eat on-the-go. It seems to be common knowledge for vegans that Jamba Juice has soy steel cut oatmeal, and I love Jamba’s steel cut oats. The only problem is that I have yet to find a Jamba Juice abroad, but thankfully, Starbucks has vegan oatmeal too! And today, I am going to share my secret to making that oatmeal a whole lot more delicious.
Oatmeal aside, if you vegetarian and traveling, I recommend carrying food on you at all times. I don’t know how many times I have kicked myself for not having a Larabar on hand when traveling. I have personally started keeping dark chocolate (and peanut butter for that matter) on hand because although my health is important, dark chocolate is important for my sanity. Back to my original thought, now that you know Starbucks has acceptable oatmeal, go into a Starbuck and order the oatmeal porridge. In Europe, they don’t offer you all those topping like brown sugar, nuts, or dried fruit, but don’t fret my friends, this is okay. Once you get your oatmeal, proceed straight to the coffee bar. Add a heavy helping of cinnamon. Then, break off a piece of that dark chocolate bar you have stashed in your purse, put it in the oatmeal, and let it melt while the oatmeal “cooks.” After about three minutes, stir it all together. Voila. Kind-of-healthy chocolate oatmeal. If you don’t carry dark chocolate on you at all times like myself – don’t worry Starbucks usually has some available for purchase at the checkout. Now, if they would only offer a vegan sandwich, so I don’t have to eat oatmeal three times a day while traveling …

Enjoy folks!
